This week, Busch Gardens Tampa is celebrating a milestone anniversary for a very special relationship. Monday, April 16 marked the one-year anniversary of the first time park guests got to see an 8-week-old male cheetah cub and a 16-week-old female yellow Labrador puppy start to strike up a friendship that the park’s animal experts expect to last a lifetime.

Interspecies Intermingling of the Day: Samantha, a 47-year-old western lowland gorilla at the Erie Zoo, has been all alone since her companion Rudy passed away in 2005. Zookeepers decided to try and alleviate her loneliness by giving her a pet: Panda the Dutch rabbit.
Initially cautious, the keepers introduced them in increments before leaving Panda alone with Samantha (keeping an escape hatch open just in case). But their concern quickly abated as the two took to each other right away.
Samantha’s handlers say they aren’t worried as she’s never expressed anything but fondness toward Panda. Still, they say the bunny is more than capable of holding his own.
“He’s fearless,” says the zoo’s chief executive, Scott Mitchell. “He’s not threatened by her. More often they’re closer together than they are farther apart.”

This optical illusion is created at a Canadian holiday resort where children are encouraged to swim with the world’s largest land predator.

Bosses at Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat near Ontario installed between their polar bear enclosure and wading pool to give people a unique experience.

And it certainly is… though you might want to double check the glass hasn’t been removed for maintenance before you get in.

A spokesman for the center said: “Staring into the eyes of an immense polar bear, while swimming only inches away from him, is to be remembered!

“You can do that, because our wading pool is separated from the bears’ pool by five centimeters, shatterproof glass, with good optical qualities.

“Photographs make it appear that the swimmer is actually in the water, with the bear.”
